To Our Alabama Fans
My year as President is coming to a close and I wanted to share some thoughts.
The football team had a great year and I believe that has gotten people even more excited about the University of Alabama.
Our membership has almost doubled; our committees have been extremely active, and the officers have done a truly superb job. The first spring picnic at Chester Frost Park was very successful. The fall and spring dinners were well attended. We took a huge Alabama fan to his first Alabama football game, Ryker a four year old cancer survivor.
The purpose of our alumni chapter is to raise money for scholarships for students from the Chattanooga area attending the University of Alabama. With automobile tag sales in Alabama at an all time high, I expect each dollar we raise to be matched dollar for dollar this year (a great deal for our scholarship).
This year the interest on our endowed scholarship was $5600 that was split between two outstanding students who love Alabama.
We have our largest fund raiser of the year Monday, June 8, at Black Creek Golf & Country Club. Maybe you don't play golf or own a business and don't feel like you can help in this cause. However, we need donations from everyone. I know how tight budgets are for business and individuals and yet this tournament is shaping up to be a great one. Almost $10,000 has been raised but we can do even better with your help.
Will you please go to our web site, www.chattanoogabamaclub.com and make a donation using PayPal (soon), or you can mail a check to P O BOX 328, Chattanooga, TN 37401. We need your contribution by Saturday June 6.
My heartfelt thanks to the officers, committee members and all club members for your unselfish hard work.
Thank you to each Alabama fan and club member, for your support of all of our activities during this year.
Ron McElvy
PS: How about the women’s softball team!
